Myofascial Decompression

Decompressing fascial restrictions to restore movement and reduce pain

Unlike traditional massage which compresses tissue, myofascial decompression uses negative pressure to lift and separate fascial layers — reaching restrictions that hands alone cannot.

Myofascial Decompression

Myofascial Decompression (MFD), also known as therapeutic cupping, uses negative pressure to decompress fascial restrictions, improve circulation, reduce pain, and restore movement. At R3 Physio, we use MFD as part of a comprehensive, systems-based treatment plan — not as a standalone treatment.

Traditional manual therapy compresses tissue. MFD does the opposite — it lifts and separates layers of fascia, muscle, and connective tissue to release restrictions that are difficult to reach with compression alone. This creates space for improved blood flow, lymphatic drainage, and nervous system regulation.

Our therapists integrate MFD with manual therapy, movement work, and neuromuscular re-education to create lasting change — not just temporary relief.

What You Gain

Benefits of Myofascial Decompression

  • Decompresses fascial restrictions
  • Improves circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Reduces muscle tension and trigger points
  • Restores movement and range of motion
  • Reduces pain and inflammation
  • Supports nervous system regulation
  • Accelerates tissue healing
  • Complements manual therapy and dry needling

Who It Helps

Conditions That Respond

Chronic Muscle Tension

Persistent tightness in the back, neck, shoulders, and hips that doesn't respond to compression-based massage.

Scar Tissue & Adhesions

Post-surgical and post-injury scar tissue can restrict movement and cause pain. MFD helps lift and mobilize these restrictions.

Sports & Overuse Injuries

Athletes use MFD to accelerate recovery from overuse injuries, reduce DOMS, and improve tissue quality.

Fascial Restrictions

Tight fascia throughout the body can restrict movement and contribute to pain patterns far from the original injury site.
