Frequency Specific Microcurrent

Advanced support for chronic tissue issues and nervous system regulation

FSM uses very low-level electrical currents combined with carefully chosen frequency pairs to speak to irritated tissues and an over-protective nervous system.

Frequency Specific Microcurrent

Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) is one of the advanced tools we use at R3 Physio to support healing in complex situations — particularly for people with chronic, multi-site pain, significant scar histories, or nervous systems that feel constantly 'amped up.'

FSM uses very low-level electrical currents (often below the level of sensation) combined with carefully chosen frequency pairs that are selected based on the tissue or system we're targeting. In research settings, microcurrent has been associated with increased cellular energy (ATP), enhanced protein synthesis and tissue repair, and changes in inflammatory signaling molecules.

FSM is rarely used as a stand-alone treatment. It is layered into a plan that already includes thorough listening and systems-based evaluation, hands-on manual therapy and movement work, and education and home strategies to support nervous-system regulation.

What You Gain

When We Consider FSM

  • Scars and adhesions (C-section, abdominal, pelvic, breast/chest, orthopedic)
  • Chronic tissue irritation and tendon pain
  • Disc-related and nerve-related pain patterns
  • Lingering post-injury or post-surgical pain
  • Chronic pain with signs of central sensitization
  • Fibromyalgia-type presentations
  • Hypermobility / EDS-type conditions
  • Nervous system overload and whole-body symptoms

Our Approach

How It Works

1

Systems-Based Evaluation First

We start with a thorough evaluation to understand whether FSM is appropriate and how it fits into your overall plan of care.

2

Frequency Selection

Your therapist selects specific frequency pairs based on the tissues and systems being targeted — this is not a one-size-fits-all protocol.

3

Layered Into Manual Therapy

FSM is applied alongside hands-on manual therapy, not instead of it. The combination amplifies the effect of both.

4

Ongoing Assessment

We monitor your response and adjust the plan accordingly. FSM is one tool in a larger strategy.

FSM is generally considered low risk when used by trained providers with appropriate screening. We do not use FSM over areas of known or suspected cancer, in patients with certain implanted electronic devices (e.g., pacemakers), or in people who are pregnant. We will always review your medical history and discuss whether FSM is appropriate for your specific situation.

Is FSM Right for You?

Every session at R3 Physio is 1-on-1 with a Doctor of PT. We take the time to understand your whole body and create a plan that actually works.
