Rock Climbing Injuries

Are you a climber who is currently struggling with an injury?

If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, you’ve come to the right place.

Many people suffer unnecessarily with pain while climbing because they’re told…

The Truth Is...

At Peak Pursuit Performance and Rehab, we help climbers get back to climbing hard.

It can be very confusing to decide exactly what you should do if you have pain with climbing . You’ve likely heard a lot of options such as…

It’s overwhelming to try to make a decision with all these choices… what will happen if you don’t make the right one?

Most people get stuck trying to make a decision about what to do next. They go days, weeks, months (even years!) without taking action.

Why We Treat Climbers:

With multiple rock climbers on staff. The PT’s here at Peak Pursuit have found a specialty in treating climbers. When founding the company, Drake and Kimmy initially were doing virtual rock climbing consultations before moving to Salt Lake City and opening up an in-person practice.

Climbing is a Specialty That Requires Special Care

With climbing being a unique, and upcoming sport– our staff believes it’s even more important to have access to healthcare providers who understand the demands of the sport as well as the specifics of tendon loading. Traditional physical therapy school only touches very lightly on finger/hand anatomy and tendon loading– so finding providers who understand where you’re coming from can be difficult.

Climbing Injuries CAN BE Easily Treated...

Without taking you out of sport, many finger, elbow, and shoulder injuries in climbing are preventable or easily treated. However, they often get misdiagnosed and under-loaded when seeing more traditional providers. This ends up prolonging climbers’ recovery and keeps them out of the sport or performing at a sub-optimal level.

Getting You Better, Faster

Most climbers require minimal visits with us. We understand that most of you are highly independent and don’t need some basic workout routine. Instead of focusing on taking our climbers through a routine, we instead focus on educating them about different tissue loading principles and giving them easy, actionable ways to modify their training so that they can keep climbing while strengthening and preventing further injury. So long as they follow through with our recommendations, most climbers will see results within a fraction of the amount of time when seeing a regular doc or physical therapist.

HOW IT WORKS

In Person Visit
  1. Climber Interview and Injury Review
  2. Strength and Mobility Assessment
  3. Treatment and Exercise Recommendations
  4. Doctor’s Report on Findings
  5. Education on Tendon Loading, Training, and Rehab Principles
Virtual Visit
We understand that many climbers live untraditional lifestyles or may not have access to a climbing rehab specialist where they live. But thanks to technology, we have been able to work with athletes around the world. We have found Telehealth to be just as beneficial for our clients as in-person visits.
Education and Custom Programming
During your in-person or Telehealth visit, your physical therapist will educate you on many different principles to help expedite your recovery process. It’s our goal to help you prevent future injuries by understanding the “why” behind exercise prescription and training modifications we give you.

At Peak Pursuit Performance and Rehab we’ve created a 3 step process to get rid of your pain AND make sure it doesn’t come back again.

Step #1 - We Want To Listen To Your Story

Our medical system is frustrating. You wait weeks, sometimes months, for an appointment, only to get to talk to the doctors for 10 minutes before they have to run to the next patient and you’re left sitting there wondering, “What just happened?”

Even most physical therapy clinics operate this way. They’re not attentive, they’re fast-paced, and your therapist doesn’t have time to actually touch where you hurt.

This is why our first step is to listen to your story.

After working with lots of people with pain while climbing, we know that no two people are alike. Each person has a different body, a different history, and different types of pain.

That is why our first step is to have an open conversation and time for you to tell your story. That way we get a deep understanding of what’s going on not just with your body, but also how it’s impacting your life.

Step #2 - Find Out WHY The Pain With Climbing Started

Many people have a diagnosis, or medical term for what’s going on with their body. Maybe their doctor gave it to them, maybe tests showed the diagnosis, or maybe you found it online.

You could have been told that your only choice was to rest, take painkillers, or start thinking about surgery.

Sometimes, those things bring temporary relief, but they’re not addressing what CAUSED the problem in the first place.

Every person’s cause of pain is different. No one has the exact same problem caused by the exact same thing as another person.

Our goal at Peak Pursuit Performance and Rehab is to find that original cause of your pain, so not only does your pain go away, it STAYS AWAY!

During your initial assessment, you’ll find out what’s wrong, how long it’s going to take to fix it, and give you peace of mind that your problem can be fixed naturally!

Step #3 - Get Rid Of The Pain & Keep It From Coming Back

This is when the big transformation occurs. We develop a personalized plan that allows you to…

…Get back to climbing without fear of the pain coming back.

…Be able to get back to your favorite routes

…Get back to your pre-injury climbing strength (and MORE!)

Our best clients are those who are motivated and ready to win back their active lifestyle. (Even if they feel stuck right now!)

Want to know more about our availability and costs before making any commitment to coming in?

You dont have to sacrifice the sport you love over problems that can be fixed.

Sincerely,
Dr. Drake Griggs PT, DPT

“Drake’s been great! He really takes the time to explain, educate, and instruct. He’s currently helping me through multiple issues I’ve been dealing with for years, and I’ve experienced dramatic improvement in a very short time. He’s taken the time to hear me and develop plans to deal with my issues. This has been my best experience in a medical setting. Way better than the ibuprofen and rest usually prescribed.”

“Drake was awesome. Had a painful shoulder when bench pressing. He gave me some ways to warm up before my workouts and gave me an alternative way to bench press and still increase strength. Haven’t felt pain in my shoulder since I started working with him. Drake is very knowledgeable in what he does and would definitely recommend him to anybody.”
